Professor Yasushi Sekine’s Research Selected as One of the Top 10 Innovations (Department of Applied Chemistry)

The Innovation for Cool Earth Forum (ICEF), launched by former Prime Minister Abe in 2014 and held annually under the leadership of the Japanese government, will be held in Tokyo until October 8 this year. The ICEF aims to bring together world leaders to discuss ways to combat climate change through technological innovation. The Top 10 innovations are described as “the best examples of recent innovations in energy and climate change mitigation that are expected to contribute to social change in the energy and environmental sectors. The list of winners for 2020 can be found below.

Professor Yasushi Sekine of Waseda University’s Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering was selected as one of the three domestic recipients of the award, joining some of the most powerful researchers from overseas. The results have already been introduced in a press release from Waseda University.

By combining the precise design technology of catalysts with the concept of surface protonics, we have realized a method that can recycle carbon dioxide at low temperatures. It is expected to become one of the key technologies in the future reduction of carbon dioxide.
